Disappointed, NOT worth the money.
I bought these knives a few years ago, along with some of the individual blades. Until, my wife brought back some high carbon knives from Japan they have been the workhorses in my kitchen, especially the larger ones and the paring knife. Well, today I pulled out the entire set to sharpen and was very disappointed. I have used the steel that comes with the set regularly on the knives I use frequently but upon close inspection almost all the knives had some pitting in the blade. I also found small amounts of rust on the handles. The pitting was usually near the tip of the blade or along the parts of the cutting edge. I was able remove some of the pitting using my sharpening stone but for the price you pay for these knives there shouldn't be any pitting. These knives have never been misused, nor have they seen the inside of a dishwasher. I bought these thinking I wouldn't be buying any other knives for at least 10 years.... Now, after only 4 years, I am beginning to start looking. The attached picture was taken with a camera phone

Love them all!
I bought one of the smaller sets years ago I think it was 07 or 08 and loved them so much we have since purchased all of the additional knives, poultry shears and scissors. We even bought 12 steak knives. I just wish we could buy the large knife block alone. We take care of them and they work great. We have only had them sharpened once but we do use the steel to keep the edge.

These Knives are Wonderful!
Growing up in a family where we had low-quality, dull knives made me dream of having high-quality, sharp knives when I would have my own home. My siblings got this set for me and my husband for our wedding. We love them! I use the paring knives every day for cutting fruit, veggies, cheese, etc. The steak knives cut steak beautifully. I bake my own bread, so the bread knife has been a great asset. We have followed the directions to sharpen the knives often on the included knife sharpener, and they are staying nice and sharp. I love the Japanese knives too, and hope to learn how to use them in Japanese cooking (we love sushi!). These knives have a very aesthetic appearance and the handles are ergonomic and pretty at the same time. Good job, Calphalon!

Katana knives
The absolute best knives I have ever owned. I have a set of Henkels and Cutco knives that were more expensive. These knives are sharper and stay shaprer much longer. They have a nice balance and weight .. Tney feel great in your hand when using them. Have to take care of them though wash and dry immediately after use or you will get pitting apparently but if you love your knives you will care for them properly.
